V23 battery types and charging care

The Malaysian V23 2WD and iWD do not share a battery chemistry, so charging advice written for one does not automatically apply to the other.

The two Malaysian V23 variants differ by more than power and drivetrain. The 2WD carries a lithium iron phosphate battery, usually shortened to LFP. The iWD carries a nickel manganese cobalt battery, usually shortened to NMC. They are different chemistries with different habits, so a charging rule picked up in an owners’ group is only useful once you know which variant it was written for.

Which one is yours

The 2WD has a single rear motor, 136 PS and 180 Nm, and reaches 100 km/h in about 11 seconds. The iWD has two motors and intelligent all-wheel drive, a combined 211 PS and 292 Nm, and reaches 100 km/h in about 7.5 seconds.

2WD — the LFP pack

  • LFP is tolerant of a full charge, so charging to 100% before a long drive is normal use rather than something to avoid.
  • A full charge that then sits for days is the part worth avoiding, particularly parked in the sun. Charge to full close to when you are leaving.
  • Partial charging is fine. There is no need to run the battery down before plugging in.
  • LFP holds a very flat voltage across the middle of its range, which makes the displayed percentage harder for the car to estimate. An occasional unhurried AC charge to 100% helps it recalibrate.

iWD — the NMC pack

  • NMC is less comfortable being left at a high state of charge for long periods, so avoid leaving the car parked near 100% for days at a time.
  • For daily driving, charging to somewhere in the middle of the range and topping up more often is easier on the pack than repeatedly filling it.
  • Charge to 100% for a long journey. The advice is about how long the car sits full, not about whether you are allowed to fill it.
  • With 81.76 kWh, most daily use will not need the full pack anyway.

AC for the week, DC for the journey

Both variants accept 6.6 kW AC. DC is where they differ, at 85 kW for the 2WD and 104 kW for the iWD. Repeated high-power DC charging puts more heat through a pack than a slow overnight AC charge, so AC suits daily use and DC suits topping up on a trip. That is a reason to prefer AC at home, not a reason to avoid DC charging when you need it.

Where these figures come from

The iWD figures are taken from the official Malaysian V23 brochure of July 2026. That brochure documents the iWD only, so the 2WD figures come from Malaysian launch reporting rather than from an official specification sheet. Check them against your own vehicle documents. The charging advice is general battery-care guidance drawn from Battery University, not V23 manufacturer instructions.

What NEDC means here

The 360 km and 430 km figures are laboratory comparison figures. They are useful for comparing vehicles tested under the same cycle, not for predicting one owner’s journey.

Your own documents come first

Charging advice written for another model, another market or the other V23 variant does not transfer to your car. Where your owner manual or an authorised service centre says something different, follow that instead.
