LFP battery technology and charging care

What is inside the Malaysian iCAUR 03, how routine AC and DC charging differ, and why an occasional full AC charge helps the displayed percentage.

Both Malaysian iCAUR 03 variants use lithium iron phosphate, or LFP, traction batteries. LFP is known for thermal stability and long cycle life. For ordinary charging, there is no need to deliberately run the battery flat first.

LFP and memory effect

LFP batteries are far less affected by the classic permanent capacity “memory effect” associated with older battery technologies, so partial charging is fine. LFP can show a small voltage-history effect that affects state-of-charge estimation. The monthly full AC charge helps the car calibrate its displayed percentage; it is not a reason to run the battery flat first.

Charging care

  • Prefer AC charging for routine use.
  • For routine DC fast charging, stop around 90% rather than filling to 100%.
  • Complete an AC charge to 100% at least monthly to help the battery-management system calibrate the displayed percentage.
  • Avoid deep discharge and charge promptly when the vehicle asks for power.
  • Performance may be limited below 10%.
  • For long-term storage, leave the traction battery at approximately 50% and follow the owner manual or authorised service advice for preparation.

What NEDC means here

The official NEDC figures are laboratory comparison figures. They are useful for comparing vehicles tested under the same cycle, not for predicting one owner’s journey.
